Whilst work is still taking place, we’ve learnt that Facebook is planning to integrate it’s messaging service in to Instagram, WhatsApp & Messenger with the work to merge the three platforms is expected to be completed by early 2020.
We are told that whilst all three services will remain as stand-alone applications, the change will allow messages to be linked allowing them to be viewed between the different platforms. Once live, this merge will mean that someone who only has WhatsApp will be able to communicate with someone who only uses Facebook Messenger; for example.
A statement from Facebook said “We want to build the best messaging experiences we can; and people want messaging to be fast, simple, reliant and private.”
It is understood that there is still a lot of discussion about exactly how the system would work but we’ll keep you abreast of any further news on this item as it becomes available.
